Motoring of a bygone era, this lovely MGA will transport you back in time to the old days of “Safety Fast!” This MGA is built with those top down, Sunday drives in mind.
 
As the replacement for the increasingly outdated ‘traditional’ MG’s such as the outgoing TF, the MGA brought in a completely new sense of styling and ushered in a new era for the marque. Gone was the traditional running board design for a single styled envelope fully enclosing the width and length of the car. The new ‘MGA’ would feature a body on frame design with the BME 1489cc 4 cylinder ‘B’ series engine driving the wheels through a 4 speed gearbox. Originally the car had 68hp which was soon uprated to 72hp; this in combination with a low slung and relatively light body gave the MGA spirited performance for the time.
 
This Australian delivered MGA 1500 is in good patinaed condition painted in non-original red with sumptuous black leather interior and painted wire wheels (original colour “Bard Grey 1” as per plate). The paint work presents in ok condition with imperfections in keeping with an older restoration. Most importantly, no rust that we have seen. A near new hood was installed a few years ago as well as a tonneau cover and side screen pouch. The sumptuous leather interior shows a few age-related creases and adds to the character and history of the car. The engine has been upgraded to a 1600 unit with about 79hp which performs as it should with nippy power delivery. On the road, the MGA is a delight to drive with predictable but fun handling combined with modest performance to keep up with modern traffic. Wind deflectors have been added on the side and above the windscreen (that also double as a sun visor) to reduce wind buffeting quite substantially.
 
The MGA is accompanied with a large folder of paperwork and has been in the current owners care for the last 13 years!
