One of the best and most collectable iterations of the C1 series – the 1962 Corvette Fuelie marked the Corvette as a proper performer and with Red on Red combination – looks the part too!
 
After nearly a decade of production, the 1962 year marked another turning point for the Corvette with proper performance under the right foot. The previous years 283ci V8 was increased in displacement to 327ci with a range of power options from the base 250hp 4 barrel carburettor model through to the extremely rare (an expensive) Rochester Fuel Injected 360HP option.
Only 1,918 ‘Fuelies’ were ever produced owing to their prohibitive price tag but most definitely worth it for extra street cred and the feel of driving a proper performance car with a 0-60 time of sub 6 seconds – quick by even today’s standards.
Exterior updates for the 1962 model were carried over from the previous year for the most part with only minor changes being a blacked out grill, chrome around the trims being removed and only solid colours being available.    
 
The car we have here is a matching numbers (claimed) 1962 Fuelie that was fully restored in early 2000’s to a very high standard – still in impeccable condition. The Red on Red colour treatment suits this Corvette perfectly with the white convertible top setting off the whole package.  
During the restoration, the seats were treated to a leather upgrade making this Corvette look and feel that little more luxurious compared to standard.
In the last few years, the current owner has gotten the Rochester fuel injection upto scratch as well as giving the engine some extra breathing space with a new exhaust system giving throaty roar under acceleration – pressing the loud peddle is too much fun in this Corvette!
Getting behind the leather clad steering wheel, you are greeted with the 6,500rpm speedo in which the engine is more than happy to rev too. The 4 speed Borg Warner T10 gearbox shifts smoothly with short gear ratios making the driving experience all more fun.
 
Considered to be one of the most collectable of the C1 models – the 1962 Corvette Fuelie represents the best of both worlds with the original Corvette C1 styling, “Stingray” rear end and a proper powerhouse of an engine.
